The June gathering at the Coppes Commons proved to be a wonderful evening for everyone attending. Nearly 40 members and guests enjoyed a tour of the complex and got a first hand report of the plans, desires and possible concepts on how the entire building will eventually be put to use.
Thomas Mast purchased the facility and has been restoring and re-purposing it since 2009. Businesses are starting to take up residence in this historic facility. One of the new tenants to soon join the retail force of four current vendors is Rocket Science Ice Cream. Many of you have perhaps already enjoyed this unique treat. Other’s may be familiar with the trailer that is often parked at the Burger Dairy Store west of Nappanee.
Thomas has become quite an historian on the Coppes factory which started in the late 1800’s as a milling company, under the name of Coppes, Mutschler & Zook. The Mutschler brothers left and started their own kitchen factory and Zook stayed in the partnership until around 1914.
If you are on facebook you can go to the Coppes Commons page, check "like" and start getting updates and information on current happenings.
Thank you everyone for your attendance and for helping to make this a very memorable and enjoyable evening.
